About — Boreva | Built by a Contractor, For the Field
About Boreva

Not Built in a Boardroom. Built in the Field.

Boreva exists because the right tool for underground utility contractors didn’t. So one was built — by someone who has run the jobs, drilled the bores, managed the crew, chased the invoices, and lost sleep over the disputes.

Geoff Rottmayer — Boreva Founder

“I built the tool I needed because nothing on the market was built for this trade.”

— Geoff Rottmayer, Founder
The Story

Every Paper Ticket Was a Dispute Waiting to Happen.

Running an underground utility crew means managing a dozen things at once — locate tickets, bore logs, crew hours, job costs, as-builts, equipment, invoices, and a GC who wants everything yesterday. The work itself is hard enough. The paperwork that surrounds it shouldn’t make it harder.

After years of running HDD and underground utility jobs and watching good contractors lose money, lose disputes, and lose sleep because they had no system — no real tool built for this specific trade — the decision was made to build one.

Not a generic construction app with a utility skin on top. Not another project management tool that doesn’t know what a bore log is. Something built rod by rod, ticket by ticket, from the ground up — by someone who has been on the machine and knows what actually happens on a job site.

That’s Boreva. And it’s still being built — with input from the contractors using it on real jobs, every day.

What it’s built on

Real Jobs. Real Problems. Real Decisions.

🔩
Built from field experience

Every feature in Boreva came from a real problem on a real job. The bore logger exists because paper logs get lost and don’t hold up in disputes. The locate ticket tracker exists because tickets expire while you’re on the machine. Nothing was designed from a whiteboard.

🛡️
Protection is the product

The app isn’t just for efficiency. It’s for protection. GPS-stamped photos, timestamped bore logs, structured conflict documentation, locate ticket history — every piece of data Boreva captures is something you can use to defend yourself when a client disputes your work.

📡
Data that travels with the job

Field data should be useful beyond the field. Boreva captures structured, GPS-tagged records that export as GeoJSON — the open standard that works with any GIS platform. The job you logged today becomes infrastructure data that engineers, owners, and municipalities can actually use.

📱
Mobile first, always

Boreva is a PWA — it installs on your iPhone or Android like a native app, works completely offline, and doesn’t require a subscription to an app store. The office version of a field tool is always going to be a compromise. Boreva was designed for the phone in your pocket, not the computer on someone’s desk.

💰
Priced for small crews

The contractors who need this most are running 2-10 person crews. They can’t afford $50 per user per month. They shouldn’t have to. Boreva is priced for the small operator — one flat rate, no per-user fees, no tiers, no contracts. You get everything.

🔁
Built with the people using it

Boreva isn’t finished — and it won’t be for a while. Every contractor using it on real jobs has a direct line to the person building it. When something doesn’t work the way a driller works, it gets fixed. When something’s missing that matters in the field, it gets built. That’s the deal.

The bigger picture

An Ecosystem Built Around One Trade.

Boreva isn’t just an app. It’s the beginning of a complete knowledge and operations ecosystem built specifically for underground utility contractors — a trade that has been underserved by software, underrepresented in the construction tech market, and underestimated by the people who build tools for contractors.

The Field Library — 7 books and growing — exists for the same reason. Practical, trade-specific knowledge that was never written down in one place. How to run an HDD job profitably. How to document a conflict. How to communicate with a GC without giving away leverage. How to build a business that actually makes money from the dirt it moves.

The Field Operator newsletter publishes weekly — real content for real contractors, not recycled business advice with a hard hat emoji on it.

A note on where Boreva is right now

Boreva is a single-device app. Your data lives on your phone and can be backed up and exported at any time. Multi-user syncing and cloud backup are on the roadmap — that’s the next major build.

It’s being used on real jobs right now. It works. But it’s also still being shaped by the contractors using it — which is exactly how it should be built.

If you get in now, you get lifetime access at the founding member price, a direct line to the builder, and the ability to influence what gets built next. That’s the deal.
